How to get to Chisholme
See the Directions page.
Accommodation
All visitor accommodation is housed on the ground and first floor in the converted farm steading, which is a short walk from the main house.
Accommodation is shared, in double, triple or dormitory style rooms. A limited number of single rooms is available on request.
Bed linen and towels are provided. Wash facilities, showers and toilets are grouped together on the ground floor. There are no bedrooms with en-suite facilities.
Costs
Chisholme is financed entirely by gifts and donations, and work freely given. Payment for your stay is therefore entirely by donation. There is a suggested daily rate, calculated to cover all meals and accommodation, but you may offer more or less depending on your circumstances. If you are able to offer a little more, you will help and support someone else to spend time here, who might not otherwise be able to come.
All education and tuition is free.
Suggested donation per day:
Adult £30
Teenager £12
Child £7
Meals
Everyone eats together in the large dining room in the main house. Great care is taken in the preparation of all food, which includes meat. Vegetarians are catered for, and any other dietary requirements will need to be discussed with the secretary beforehand.
What to bring
The weather varies a great deal, so please bring warm clothing and waterproofs suitable for working out of doors (including Wellington boots if you have any). Also: two pairs of house shoes or slippers (one pair for the steading accommodation, one for the main house). A dressing gown is useful, as none of the bedrooms or dormitories has en-suite facilities.
Disabled facilities
The student accommodation in the farm steading has ground floor rooms with wheelchair access, and one bathroom with toilet and shower suitable for disabled users. Please discuss your requirements at the time of your interview.
Additional Six-month Course Information
What to bring
A bathing costume or bathing trunks are needed for the trip to Turkey (hot steam baths)
Children
If you are a parent and you would like to bring your child or children to Chisholme for the duration of the six-month course, then please write to the Principal at the earliest possible opportunity. Schooling and care arrangements need to be in place well in advance of the beginning of the course.
Primary school children up to the age of eight or nine years old attend the local village school at Roberton, while older children go to one of the primary schools in Hawick. Over twelves attend Hawick High School. There is a school bus both to and from Roberton (4m) and Hawick (9m). The care for children of pre-school age will be addressed in close co-operation with the parents.
